Bargo

Glasgow, 1996

Bargo opened in 1996 as a big and bustling bar in the Merchant City quarter of Glasgow. The Citys industrial and mercantile past were referenced through the use of old aluminium portholes, overscaled timbers and crate-like banquettes. In plan it was a new building slotted inside an old one; the former Cheese Market. This approach created complex, flexible spaces which were there to be explored, almost puzzled over.
