Within Coates' naturalistic lexicon of forms, the Paralumen suspension constructs an open flower. Its six or ten floating petals are made traditionally with tubular aluminium frames and silk stretched across it. The diagonal pitch of each petal catches every breath of air, sending the shade into a state of rotation.
