Handblown
Fluidity is a constant theme, playing with shapes to create unique anatomies. Glass is a magical liquid that can be guided, but the final form is never completely predictable. The HANDBLOWN exhibition presents two approaches to glass making that are defined by the type of glass, lead crystal or borosilicate. Lead crystal involves working the glass as a liquid and creating shapes through the process of blowing, adding layers of colours and hand shaping while the piece is hot. The techniques used are Venetian, working closely with masters in the UK and Italy. With borosilicate glass, the master heats cylinders of glass on a lathe, and fuses pieces while hot.
